What the French are Proud of ...

Lloyd Garver Survey 2009 reports:

Since it was France, I couldn't resist asking a couple of questions about sex. Not surprisingly, those questioned felt that French women and men are sexier than Americans. However, I should point out that this was before I got my haircut.

Of all the things that France is known for, including their history, their architecture, their art, a surprising 20 percent said that the French thing they were most proud of was ... the cheese. The cheese! Forget Notre Dame, Impressionism and the French Revolution. Just pass the Brie.

Wonder what the Americans are most proud of ...? Their extensive History? Iraq? Vietnam? Slavery? Sorry just jesting - they do have Obama afterall - we have Gordon. Wonder if they would like to do a swap?

Peter Mayle is not alone in Provence

We are all aware of Peter Mayle's prolific activity in promoting the Provence - especially the Lurberon. Now more support for the delights of Provence!

Susan Spano writing in the Los Angeles Times identifies 3 more reasons to love Provence:

1) APT MARKET - For visitors, it's a bacchanal of Provencal merchandise, along with inexpensive imported jewelry, clothing and housewares.
2)
LE CASTELAS RESTAURANT- eating some of the best food in Provence with your fingers while watching the sun set over the Luberon
3)
JANE EAKIN HOUSE IN MENERBES - Her paintings of its people and places were exhibited in galleries all over Europe, even though she never became famous.

Have you more reasons to love the Provence?

High Speed Train into the Limousin

The French - experts with High Speed Trains - are expanding the network with a link between Paris and Limoges (Limousin): Ligne Grande Vitesse.

So if you are buying in the Limousin, and the property seems very cheap - check that you will not be sitting next to the whirlwind train line. Of course, this opens up a quick link from Paris so Limousin property prices may increase as Parisians and others look for weekend retreats.

Pint Size Sarkozy

Vanity strikes again! Shorty French President Sarkozy needs a boost it appears. Not content with high-heeled shoes, he now surrounds himself with vertically challenged supporters strategically postioned behind him for a TV keynote speech (as reported by the Telegraph).

Perhaps you should concentrate on the content of ythe speech?

New Flight to Midi-Pyrenees

Travellers near Manchester Airport will be offered access to a new French destination next summer when bmibaby launches flights to Lourdes in France from Manchester airport.

It will operate two weekly flights to Lourdes on Mondays and Fridays between 30 April and 1 October 2010.

Located close to the foothills of the Pyrenees, on the French border with Spain, Lourdes is a popular market town / religious destination that apparently has more hotels than any other destination in the country except for Paris! This will be extremely popular with Brits who bought a Midi-Pyrenees property as a holiday home or permanent residence.
